When Millicent Rogers chucked her debutante life and set out to be an artist in Taos, New Mexico where Georgia O'Keefe reined as the leading art dame, Miriam Haskell responded to the simpler, more natural approach to life, love and fashion. Miriam created this wonderfully rich glass bead, wood bell parure, accented with celluloid leaves and hung on a fanciful celluloid chain. Now it's 'environmentally friendly', then it was 'patriotic'. (Metal was needed for the war effort so she did not use metal during the war.) Either way, it speaks to the love of a natural aesthetic grounded in a clever use of unusual jewelry materials. Overall, the charming necklace measures 15 and 1/2" long, a little over 1 and 1/2" wide, and a full 1" thick with bells. It closes with its original vintage celluloid hook clasp. Cherry red Bakelite blazes underneath a huge fancy black button centerpiece to create a one-of-a-kind medley of the world's most sleek and sexy colors. This enchanting one of a kind bracelet came to Sassy from an estate in New Orleans and was put together in the late 1930s to 1940s! The pattern in the middle of the black Bakelite focal point is decidedly floral with ribbing on the red accent to bring on added attention. An elastic band with a collection of black Bakelite buttons is call for adulation as it playfully flits around your wrist. Each one is sewn in place precisely for just the right impact. From his flared nostrils to the strength of his neck, this 2 and 1/16" wide and 1 and 5/8" tall horse is made of either porcelain or some other glassy material and set on wood. The pin is highly detailed and an unusual find. Arrayed in finery fit for a queen, this intriguing woman is the subject of an elaborately carved celluloid cameo. She wears an arching headpiece in her flowing, curly locks and a necklace upon her neck. She is frocked in the finest gossamer and has the face of a goddess. Surrounded by a diamond-shaped, clear Lucite frame with curves and lines, she is a femme fatale of incomparable elegance. The cameo brooch is 2 and 1/8" or 3" depending on how you measure.
